New Year’s Day is a holiday for many, but retailers know it’s a big shopping day. If you’re headed out to pick up a few things, there are plenty of stores open on Jan. 1, 2020.

In fact, many shops are having sales on New Year’s Day. Mall staples like Old Navy and Macy’s are in the midst of their post-Christmas sales. Walmart is also promoting an end-of-year clearance sale.

It might be a smart idea to stock up on certain items during New Year’s Day sales. According to Nerd Wallet, January is the best time to buy Christmas decorations, fitness equipment and linens.

It’s a federal holiday, so the post office will be closed. Banks will remain dark as well.
