Things are about to get even more interesting on the CW's "Riverdale." The Season 4 finale aired Wednesday, and although it came three episodes earlier than intended -- thanks to COVID-19 -- fans were still left with a jarring cliffhanger and anticipation for Season 5.

If all goes well, the show, starring KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, and Lili Reinhart, just to name a few, should return as part of the fall 2020 line-up but, in the meantime, "Riverdale" creator and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa gave fans just enough information to speculate about what's to come for relationships like Bughead, Varchie and Choni.

When it comes to journalist couple Betty (Reinhart) and Jughead (Sprouse), Aguirre-Sacasa shared with Entertainment Tonight, "They’re still gonna be very, very deep in the videotape mystery, but, before graduation, they are going to have a very, very, very big conversation about their future."

As for Archie (Apa) and Veronica (Mendes), it seems the duo will have to face a "very, very, very" big situation as well.

"Varchie’s got a very, very dramatic prom episode. A lot of stuff comes out at prom," he spilled. "You know, we haven’t heard or seen the last of the song that Archie wrote for Betty, and right at this moment where they should be celebrating everything, a lot happens. It’s pretty dramatic what happens at prom with Varchie."

Whether or not the "pretty dramatic" prom event has anything to do with the fact that Archie and Betty kissed, something their respective partners know nothing about at this moment, remains to be seen but Aguirre-Sacasa did reveal that Betty and Archie don't seem to be on the same page when it comes to their feelings about each other.

"I feel like it was interesting that Archie and Betty kissed," he began. "We know that it, sort of, drove Betty to really value Jughead. And with Archie, we’re not really sure what that emotional tryst with Betty did to him, but I can tell you it’s some huge, huge shockwaves are gonna roll out from that."

The creative mastermind also dished that fans will get to see a little more from another "Riverdale" couple -- Cheryl and Toni.

"In the prom episode, we sort of play them a little bit as Romeo and Juliet. Which is to say that Cheryl finds out that Toni’s family has some pretty strong opinions about Toni dating Cheryl. And we find out that Toni’s family hasn’t even known that Toni has been dating Cheryl, so they’ve got some star-crossed drama coming up soon too," he said.

"Riverdale" was at least half-way finished with the prom episode when production for the popular CW show was shut down in early March.

Warner Bros. Television explained in a statement that the decision was made "out of an abundance of caution" after a member of their crew was linked to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus. The episodes that were not finished will kick off Season 5.

"We had written episodes 20, 21 and 22 and when we talked about Season 5 and some of the big events like prom and graduation, it would feel like a cheat if we somehow didn't do those," Aguirre Sacassa told Entertainment Weekly. "So we're essentially starting the season with the last three episodes of Season 4, and partly because they're dynamite episodes. I mean big, big, big changes happen. We are continuing the mystery and the relationship drama straight into Season 5."

"Riverdale" Season 5 does not have a premiere date yet.
