Rumors are rife that WhatsApp will soon be updated with a new feature of video calling. The company that is owned by Facebook has been promising to provide this feature for over a year but it seems that it will finally come true in few weeks from now.

It was reported Tuesday that WhatsApp video calling feature will be first made available for iOS users and then it will arrive for Android users. The video calling feature will make it possible for users to make and receive video calls over cellular data as well as Wi-Fi connection.

There will be a small window placed at the topside of video call, which will contain the image of the person who has made the video call. It will be a movable preview window. Users will be able to switch between front-facing and rear-facing camera while talking on a video call. It will also feature a mute function.

A leaked screenshot of the WhatsApp video calling feature for iOS users has been revealed by the source. The video calling feature will show up for iOS users in the 2.12.16.2 version of WhatsApp for iOS. At present, the most recent edition of WhatsApp for iOS in the App Store is 2.12.12.

Another feature that will be introduced soon is arrival of multiple chat tabs. This feature will allow to easily switch between different ongoing chats without accessing the main chat list. Speculations are rife that the appearance of the entire app will receive a makeover. The app is expected to sport a green colored appeal in the near future.

WhatsApp is one of the major competitors for Skype, one of the most preferred apps for voice and video calling. The audio calling feature on WhatsApp was introduced in April 2015. The video calling feature that will arrive soon for WhatsApp users will certainly make it become a bigger competitor for Skype, GSM Arena reported.
