With GM’s (GM) announcement that it would be bringing back the Hummer as an all-electric pickup truck branded under the GMC label, it was quick to tout that the vehicle would deliver 1,000 horsepower. What wasn’t know at the time, was where the power would come from until now.

A total of three electric motors will be used to power the GMC Hummer EV.

The news of the beefed-up powertrain was provided by GM President Mark Reuss during the company’s Q4 earnings call. Reuss said at the time that up to three motors will be offered in a series of electric ranges and performance levels with varying price tags, Motor 1 reported.

While it is unknown what configuration the motors will be used in or what variants of the electric truck will see three motors, it does give a glimpse into the power that GM is looking to achieve with the Hummer EV. According to GM, the truck will have 11,500 pounds-per-feet of torque and hit 60 mph in three seconds.

Reuss also did hint that that the Hummer EV will be offered in a “basic packaged” in addition to options that were designed for off-roading and towing capabilities, according to the news outlet.

GM will officially unveil the GMC Hummer EV on May 20. Production of the truck will begin in Fall 2021 at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan.

Shares of GM stock were down 1.11% as of 11:49 a.m. EST on Friday.
