  • Riley Reid is discouraging fans from becoming an adult film performer
  • She says being a porn star requires having a "strong mindset and perspective"
  • Reid explained that adult stars need to have a lot of "self-love" due to the amount of "hate" they receive

Porn star Riley Reid may be open about her profession and what she likes about being a sex worker, but she doesn’t recommend it to others who may want to try and explore the adult film industry.

In her latest YouTube Q&A video, she was asked if she would recommend pursuing a career in porn to a person who “feels called to it and loves sex.” Before answering the question, Reid explained that this topic requires a “hard conversation.”

“I know that myself personally, I don’t recommend anyone to get into porn because it’s really tough and it’s really hard and I feel like you really have to have a strong mindset and perspective,” the 29-year-old adult performer said.

“You have to have a lot of self-love because there’s so much hate coming at you. People are just clawing at you so you have to really be confident in who you are before you open the doors to allow people who have no idea who you are, who have never met you, know nothing about you, who literally just watched you have sex, then judge you and complain about you,” she added.

Reid, whose real name is Ashley Mathews, also revealed that she has received a lot of complaints about her body. Moreover, she said that there’s an “exponentially large” number of people who have told her to go under the knife, specifically to undergo breast augmentation.

Reid shared that many people have tried to pressure her into doing things she isn't open to doing. However, she noted that these are only fans whom she had never met, are just online and don’t know a thing about her.

“All these people have is a version of you that is just sex and playing a character so people’s vision of me is a girl who f--- her stepdad. You have a perspective of me that is not real at all,” Reid added.

Concluding her answer, Reid reiterated that she wouldn’t recommend a porn career to people because “it’s a lot and it takes a toll on you emotionally.”

But although this is the case, she still believes that she wouldn’t be the person she is today if it weren’t for her job.

This is not the first time Reid has discouraged fans from joining the adult industry. In a YouTube video she uploaded earlier this year, she admitted that having a porn career will make everything else in a person's life difficult.

“A lot of times when people ask me if they should do porn, I tell them no. It makes life really hard – it makes dating really hard, it makes your family life really hard, it makes intimacy hard,” she explained. “You’re putting yourself out there and the world is now judging you. You have to be OK with being shamed for every day of your life.”
