Princess Anna has been dubbed as unfashionable compared to her aunt, Princess Margaret.

On the online forum site Quora, a royal fan asked if Queen Elizabeth II’s only daughter was ever fashionable when she was much younger. Burney Marsh, a professor of writing and linguistics, replied by saying that there was a period in Princess Margaret’s life when she wore nice gowns at events, and she also styled her hair nicely.

“However, she was never as fashionable on any level with that of her aunt Princess Margaret, nor would she have desired to be so. Princess Anne has always been more down to earth and dressed sensibly… When not on official engagements, she wore the attire of a country lady who kept horses,” he said.

As Princess Margaret got older, her style became more practical yet prematurely matronly. She is also known as the hardest-working royal so she tends to wear more practical pieces of clothing than the other members of the royal family.

In related news, Princess Anne also made headlines this week after it was revealed that she was shocked by her younger brother Prince Edward’s sudden decision about his career in the Royal Navy.

While speaking with the Channel 5 documentary “Royal Scandals,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward recounted the time when Prince Edward returned home to tell his family that he planned on quitting the Marines. The royal family didn’t like the idea and they tried to convince the dad of two to do otherwise.

Prince Edward told his family that he will no longer quit the Marines, but Princess Anne heard in the news that he actually did.

“Princess Anne was driving back to Gloucestershire and nearly put her car in a ditch when she heard on the radio that Edward had resigned,” she said.

Royal expert Richard Kay added that the Queen Mother also felt disappointed with Prince Edward’s decision and for letting them down.
