Queen Elizabeth II vetoed Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s first name choice for their daughter Princess Beatrice.

In 1988, the Duke and Duchess of York welcomed their first daughter. The new parents at the time reportedly wanted to name their firstborn “Annabel,” Express first reported.

Queen Elizabeth II has to approve the royal names of the royal babies, and she surprisingly reportedly vetoed Prince Andrew and Ferguson’s first choice because Her Majesty found it too “yuppie.” It’s unknown what the royal parents were thinking when they thought of the name. It’s unsure whether they were thinking of Mayfair private club Annabel’s, which was their favorite place to hang out.

Queen Elizabeth II reportedly suggested the name Beatrice because it was also the name of Queen Victoria’s youngest child. The Queen gave birth to Prince Andrew in 1960 and was the first monarch to have a child during their reign since Beatrice’s birth in 1857.

Since the Queen rejected the Duke and Duchess of York’s name choice for their baby, the announcement of Princess Beatrice’s name was delayed. The couple waited for two weeks to announce their baby’s name, which was too long compared to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle whose baby’s name was announced just two days after the duchess gave birth.

Back in March, Ferguson was spotted at Annabel’s private club in Mayfair with her daughter Princess Beatrice. The two were accompanied by the latter’s boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

For the outing, the Duchess of York looked stunning in her leather black jacket and green dress. Ferguson styled her hair in big curls and matched her outfit with a velvet green Gucci bag and shoes.

Princess Beatrice was as beautiful as her mom in her black velvet tuxedo jacket over a black dress. Meanwhile, her boyfriend opted for a white shirt and blazer.

Ferguson was frozen out by the royal family following her split from Prince Andrew. Due to this, she wasn’t invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding where her daughters Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice were considered the worst-dressed guests. For Princess Beatrice’s part, it was mostly due to her eccentric hat.

Ferguson praised Princess Beatrice’s outfit saying that she looked “perfect in every way,” but if she were there days before the wedding, she would make sure that her hat would be different.
