Sarah Ferguson was not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding in 2011, and the Duchess of York was saddened by the snub.

While speaking with Oprah Winfrey, the mom of two said that it was difficult to not be invited to the royal event especially since Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie were all there.

“I wanted to be there with my girls… to be getting them dressed and to go as a family. Also, it was so hard, because the last bride up that aisle [at Westminster Abbey] was me,” she said.

But even though Ferguson wasn’t invited to the royal wedding, Prince Andrew tried to cheer her up by saying that she should remember their own wedding because it was so perfect. Even though Ferguson and Prince Andrew have been divorced since 1996, the Duke of York still made the Duchess of York feel as though she was part of the royal family.

A source said in 2011 that Ferguson wasn’t invited to the royal wedding because she was no longer a part of the royal family. The source added that Prince Charles didn’t also have time for the mom of two and didn’t think she should be at Prince William’s wedding.

But seven years passed and things quickly turned around for Ferguson. On May 19, 2018, she surprised the massive crowd waiting outside St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle when she arrived a few minutes before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot.

Ferguson was invited to attend the royal wedding, and Queen Elizabeth II even gave the Duke and Duchess of Sussex her approval to send Ferguson an invitation.

But since she’s not an official member of the royal family, the Duchess of York didn’t sit beside her husband and daughters at the royal wedding.

Five months later, she once again reunited with the royal family at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding.
