  • Man Utd reportedly will not battle against Chelsea to sign Timo Werner
  • Chelsea have agreed to Werner's transfer fee of $63m
  • Liverpool reportedly have backed out of the race

Manchester United reportedly will not try to snatch Timo Werner as Chelsea are close to signing the RB Leipzig star forward.

It is understood that Werner, who was expected to become a Liverpool player next season, has verbally agreed to Chelsea’s offer of $253,000-a-week as the Blues are fine with the player’s transfer fee of $63 million.

It was earlier reported that it was Liverpool and Man Utd chasing the talented striker before Chelsea appeared in the picture recently. Werner’s release clause was due to expire on June 15 and the clubs needed to decide before that.

It looks like while Liverpool have bowed out, Man Utd will not stand in Chelsea’s way in this transfer as they believe their front attack is settled and need to look to strengthen their other positions on the field.

A source from Man Utd has informed Evening Standard that with Odion Ighalo’s loan extended until January 2021 and return of Marcus Rashford from injury, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to spend money this summer on other positions like midfield and Jadon Sancho remains their top priority, who will not come for cheap.

It was earlier reported that Dortmund had rejected an enormous offer of $155m from Man Utd for Sancho this February. The Englishman’s current transfer value is around $122m, which is still less than the Red Devils’ previous offer.

The 20-times league champions are also keeping an eye on moves for Birmingham City’s central midfielder Jude Bellingham and Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish. Solskjaer is also keen to see how young forward Mason Greenwood shapes up. The Man Utd boss rates the 18-yar-old England national highly and believes he can go on to compete with Anthony Martial as the center of the team’s attack. Having played 36 matches for the first-team this season, Greenwood has scored 12 times including five goals in 22 Premier League games.
