UPDATE: May 10, 4:47 p.m. EDT -- ABC isn’t letting go of the Nathan Fillion-led series just yet. On Friday, “The Rookie” was renewed by the network for Season 2, according to TVLine.

Original story: ABC’s “The Rookie” ends its freshman run on Tuesday with its Season 1 finale, but there’s a chance the episode could double as a series finale.

The network hasn’t chosen to renew or cancel the Nathan Fillion-led cop drama yet, which means its fate is still up in the air. After starring on ABC’s “Castle” for eight seasons, Fillion’s a fan-favorite on the network, which could help the show get a Season 2.

Ratings-wise, “The Rookie” isn’t a clear winner or loser. Out of nine ABC dramas, it’s coming in at number five, both in demo, with an average of a 0.73, and viewers, with an average of 4.169 million.

Luckily, whether the show’s renewed or not, fans still have at least one more new episode to enjoy. Season 1, episode 20, titled “Free Fall,” airs Tuesday night and follows the cops at a turning point in their careers.

“As the rookies prepare for a big exam to see who moves on to the next stage of training, Officer Nolan [Nathan Fillion] and Officer Bishop [Afton Williamson] are called to the scene of a murder and learn that the victim may be tied to a potential terrorist attack on the city of Los Angeles,” the synopsis reveals.

Written by Alexi Hawley and directed by Mike Goi, the episode features a guest cast of Shawn Ashmore (Wesley Evers), Michael Beach (Commander Percy West), Sarah Shahi (Jessica Russo) and Valerie Cruz (Elena Ruiz).

Alyssa Diaz (Angela Lopez), Richard T. Jones (Sergeant Wade Grey), Titus Makin (Jackson West), Mercedes Mason (Captain Zoe Andersen), Melissa O’Neil (Lucy Chen) and Eric Winter (Tim Bradford) also star.

Catch the Season 1 finale of “The Rookie” on ABC on Tuesday at 10 p.m. EDT.
