A woman killed her mother and stabbed her brother before heading for a vacation with a friend. The incident took place in Bengaluru, the capital city of the southern Indian state of Karnataka, on Monday morning.

According to local reports, Harish, the younger brother of 33-year-old Amrutha Chandrashekar, saw his sister packing her bags. When he offered help, she refused and instead started attacking him with a knife. Hearing Harish’s screams, his 52-year-old mother came running. The accused then fatally stabbed her mother. She then turned on her bother and hit him with an iron rod.

Assuming that the brother was dead, the accused left for a five-day holiday to Andaman and Nicobar Islands with her friend, identified as Shridhar Rao. The injured brother, however, managed to call relatives for help. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and a police case was filed.

A police team reached Port Blair, the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. With the help of the local police, they tracked down the duo and took them into custody. Though the exact reason behind the crime was not known, police believe the accused was upset over the family’s unpaid debts.

"We are still investigating the matter. We are not clear about the motive behind the murder," a police officer said, adding that they were trying to find out if Rao was also involved in the plan.
