A man killed his mother and chopped her body to pieces after watching a crime show. The incident took place in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

On Dec. 28, the man, identified as 30-year-old Sohail Shaikh, and his mother, who was not identified, got into a heated argument over his alcohol addiction. During the argument, the man killed his mother by strangulating her. He, however, did not know what to do with the body.

“He could not figure out what to do with the body. He watched a crime show on television from which he got the idea to chop the body. Shaikh later chopped the body into pieces and disposed the body parts separately," a police officer said.

A police case was registered two days later after the headless body of the victim was found. During investigation, police found the chopped legs of the victim in a rubbish bin and on Jan.4, the severed head of the woman was found under a bridge.

"Since the body parts were highly decomposed, it was difficult to establish the victim's identity. We worked on facial reconstruction by drawing sketches of the woman's face based on the skeletal remains," the officer said.

While examining CCTV footage from the area, police noticed that a motorcycle was present in all the three locations from where the body parts were recovered. Police then identified the suspect as Shaikh. The neighbors of the accused informed the police that Shaikh’s mother had not bee seen in the neighbourhood for the past few days. Following this, police arrived at Shaikh’s home and took him into custody Wednesday. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and was charged with murder.
