  • Women investors in crypto are rising
  • Women entrepreneurs in this field are also rising
  • BuyUCoin registers 130% y-o-y growth in female users

For an industry that is largely dominated by men, it comes as good news on International Women's Day that women are joining the large pool of cryptocurrency investors. From financial advisors to housemakers, more women have found the daring to invest in the new class of assets, venturing beyond safe-haven assets usually associated with them.

Indian exchange BuyUCoin saw a 130% year-on-year growth of women investors on its platform. Women investors have shown interest in Ethereum, Bitcoin, Shiba Inu, XRP, ADA, and MATIC, as per the research conducted by BuyUcoin on its platform.

In the otherwise men-dominated industry, it is interesting to note that women who have traditionally invested in assets like gold and silver are shifting towards investing in digital assets including cryptocurrencies.

"Traditionally, women have always invested in safe assets like gold and silver but rising inflationary pressure is driving female investors towards assets that provide a strong shield against inflation," Jay Hao, CEO of OKX.com, a global cryptocurrency exchange told International Business Times.

"Crypto-assets have emerged as the best inflation hedge in these turbulent times and female investors are actively participating in the crypto revolution around the globe," he said.

The top professions of female Investors on BuyUcoin are entrepreneurs, doctors, teachers, lawyers, CAs, engineers, financial advisors and housemakers, the research showed.

Shivam Thakral, CEO of BuyUcoin, said, "Female professionals are looking at crypto for achieving their long-term goals like children's education, passive income, and higher education for professional growth. If regulatory hurdles are taken care of, India has the potential to lead the world in crypto and blockchain." Not only investors, but the crypto industry has also seen a surge in the number of woman-led startups in recent times.

Last month, IBT spoke to one such founder Imge Su Cetin, who started Defy Trends, an AI-backed data analytics platform with two other founding members, Daniela Henao, the chief operating officer, and Elena Garidis, the chief financial officer, last year. They secured a $120,000 investment from Panoramic Ventures.

Cetin noted that half of this women-led startup's customers are women.
