Because professional wrestling is scripted, it’s often easily predictable. But WWE’s upcoming pay-per-view is anything but, and WWE Battleground 2016 could feature multiple surprises on Sunday.

The main event is one of the most intriguing matches that’s been on a WWE card in quite some time. For the first time since they joined WWE’s main roster in November 2012, the three former members of The Shield, one of the top stables in the company’s history, will compete in a match that includes no other wrestlers. The WWE Championship is on the line, and the triple threat match could have a major impact on WWE going forward.

Dean Ambrose owns WWE’s top belt, and since he was selected by “SmackDown” in Tuesday’s WWE Draft, there is no world title on the company’s flagship show, “Monday Night Raw.” That could easily change with a win by Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns, but WWE could be looking to have a world championship on both shows, following the brand split. That could lead to some sort of screwy finish, i.e. both Ambrose and Rollins pinning Reigns to end the match.

Of course, Ambrose, Rollins or Reigns could end the match with a clean win, but it’s hard to imagine this match will finish without controversy.

The match involving the women’s champion is sure to feature a surprise, as well. Charlotte won’t put her title on the line, but she’ll team with Dana Brooke against Sasha Banks and an unknown female wrestler.

A few candidates stand out as potential tag partners for Sasha. Nia Jax could team with her after recently being called up to the main roster from NXT. Naomi hasn’t been on TV in some time, but she was just drafted to SmackDown. Nikki Bella recently indicated that she was just cleared to wrestle after having neck surgery, and she would make sense on many levels, especially since she was the last champion before Charlotte.

Nine matches are on the Battleground card, including the pre show. The event is available at 8 p.m. ET on pay-per-view ($49.95 in standard definition and $54.95 in HD), but most viewers will watch Battleground on the WWE Network, which costs subscribers $9.99 per month.
