"X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer took to Twitter Wednesday to announce the addition of a new character -- Jubilee. The mutant will be played by Hollywood newcomer Lana Condor.

The character Jubilee first appeared in a May 1989 issue of the long-running “Uncanny X-Men” series. Originally fashioned after a ‘80s mallrat, Jubilee has the mutant abilities to throw colorful firework-like bursts at her adversaries. Fans of the "X-Men" series will most likely recognize her from the popular ‘90s animated Fox series.

Singer has made several previous casting announcements through his Instagram account for the ever-growing roster of Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Jubilee joins Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Jean Gery (Sophie Turner) to the highly anticipated installment in the comic book franchise. Meanwhile, Channing Tatum is scheduled to make his first appearance in the flick before a spinoff movie after his character, Gambit. And Ben Hardy is signed on in an unspecified role.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will mark Jennifer Lawrence's final appearance as Mystique. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender return as former friends now rivals, Professor X and Magneto.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” begins filming in April and is scheduled to open in theaters nationwide in May 2016.
