The oldest brewery in the U.S., D.G. Yuengling & Son, is expanding outside of the East Coast, bringing its beer to more states across America after a tie-up with Molson Coors Beverage Company (TAP).

Yuengling, which is known for its German-style beer, has entered into a long-term partnership with Molson Coors that will send its beers west, outside of the 22 states where its beer line is currently offered. The joint venture between the two breweries will launch in the second half of 2021 and is thought to be the biggest beer deal this year, AdAge said.

Yuengling will continue to be a family-owned business holding on its 191-year roots, with the distribution company operating separately with Molson Coors. Molson Coors and Yuengling representatives will sit on the board of directors for the newly formed entity.

“We are excited to launch this brewing partnership with the team at Molson Coors,” Wendy Yuengling, chief administrative officer and 6th generation family member at D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., said in a statement.

“Like Yuengling, Molson Coors has an established commitment to quality and rich history of family brewing excellence. This partnership is a great opportunity for us to grow our distribution footprint for the long-term, while continuing to support our existing markets and the communities in which we operate,” she added.

Yuengling currently has two breweries in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and Tampa, Florida. Molson Coors has seven breweries and six craft breweries.

Together, the two companies will brew Yuengling beer while expanding its distribution reach beyond the East Coast. The move is designed to make Yuengling beer more accessible by “opening markets the company can’t currently reach.”

Shares of Molson Coors were trading at $34.71 as of 2:34 p.m. EDT, down 30 cents or 0.86%.
