Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik released the second song from his upcoming album “Mind of Mine” on Wednesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” Reports suggested that the song was about his breakup with former fiancée Perrie Edwards, to whom he was engaged for two years.

The 23-year-old singer, who is believed to be dating model Gigi Hadid now, was dressed in a black jacket as he sang the emotional song at the show for the first time. Earlier this year, Malik gave an interview to DJ Zane Lowe, where he hinted that the song was about the breakup with Edwards. Lowe had said that the song “Its You” seemed like a “real centre-piece for the album” due to the vocals in it and later asked the singer if it was “about the break-up of your relationship,” according to the Daily Mail.

Malik had responded to that saying: “There’s always a fine line with that. I just felt like I needed to put myself out there a bit on that because it was a form of therapy for me, and it did help me get through some s***,” adding: “So if it can help someone else at that time, then that’s cool.”

During Fallon’s show, viewers also got to take a look at the cover of “Mind of Mine,” showing a photograph from when Malik was a toddler, Us Weekly reported.

Malik and Edwards got engaged in August 2013 and broke up in 2015, without revealing the reason behind the split. Since then, Malik and Hadid, who was also seen in his first song “Pillow Talk,” have been seen together in several instances, fueling dating rumors.

Malik split from One Direction in March 2015.
