Xayah and Rakan
Rakan and Xayah, the bird duo Riot Games

The teasers are finally over. Riot Games just unveiled the two newest champions, Rakan and Xayah. For the first time in the history of the MOBA, two champions will be released at the same time, both playable separately from one another. Kindred’s Lamb and Wolf are never one without the other; R + X can handle a bit of time away from each other. Turns out the leak from earlier this week was totally right.

Xayah is a marksman who throws plumes of feathers to damage her opponents. Her Q, Double Daggers, throws out a row of feathers that drop where they land. Feathers are an important part of her kit, whenever she uses a basic attack or an ability, these parts of her stay on the ground. Her W, empowers her auto attacks, while her ultimate, Featherstorm, unleashes a flurry of feathers directly in front of her. She can call back all her feathers, damaging anyone around her, with her E, Bladecaller.

Rakan is the support of the group, ready to help out his allies and soulmate whenever they call. His passive grants him a shield that regenerates when he attacks enemy champions. Xayah isn’t the only one that gets fun with feathers, Rakan’s Q, Gleaming Quill, tosses out a feather that damages enemies and heals allies standing near the birdman. Grand Entrance, his W, propels Rakan forward damaging enemies. His E, Battle Dance, allows him to jump to an ally up to two times, protecting them from damage. I love his ultimate, The Quickness, which has Rakan run in a line and then charm the first enemy hit.

The two work very well together but don’t need to be picked in the same game. Good on Riot Games for trying out a new way to introduce characters into the lore of Runeterra.
