One of the hottest gadgets that emerged from the IFA technology show in Berlin is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. The device, which Samsung was forced to pull from the IFA 2011 show following a preliminary injunction issued by a German court, is hugely shaping up to be the strongest rival to Apple iPad 2.

Here are the top 5 features that have made the Tab 7.7 a troubling device for the iPad 2.

The Screen

Compared to the iPad 2's 9.7-inch LED backlit multi-touch screen, Samsung Galaxy Tab's 7-inch screen looks smaller, but 0.7 of an inch coupled with a Super AMOLED Plus display gives the Tab 7.7 the perfect compact tablet size. The 7.7-inch 1280x800 panel is hugely bright and colorful, and can put the iPad 2′s display to shame. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the first tablet to feature Super AMOLED Plus display.

It's thinner

The iPad 2 stunned the gadget lovers with a thickness of 8.8 millimetres when it was launched earlier this year. But the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 has surpassed the iPad 2 measuring just 7.89 millimetres.

It's lighter

Apart from its slim look, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is extremely light. With just 335 grams, it makes the iPad 2 look pretty heavy at 601 grams. Yes, it's not far off half the weight of the iPad 2.

The processor

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 comes with impressive processing power by a dual-core 1.4GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, which is 400MHz quicker than the iPad 2′s A5 chip. Although it's difficult declare the winner since the A5 also features an excellent GPU, the Tab does look stronger than the iPad 2.

The camera

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 features a 3.15 mega pixel rear facing camera with auto focus, LED flash and geo tagging facilities. The device also comes with a 2 mega pixel front facing camera, which will enable video conferencing.

On the other hand, iPad 2 features a front facing camera, as well as, a rear facing camera, which are less than 1-megapixel and with no flash. The rare facing camera, which is of less quality than other cameras in the market, can record up to 720p HD video.

Apart from the sheer hardware quality, Google's Android Honeycomb OS is another feature that makes the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 the strongest competitor to iPad 2. Apple itself considers the device as a major threat. Apple's ongoing legal action against Samsung resulted in the Korean Technology giant forcing to pull the tablet from the IFA Electronics show, Europe's biggest consumer electronics fair that is currently being held in Berlin.
