A 13-year-old California girl who stole her mom’s car and went on a joyride with her juvenile friend Friday fatally struck two people.

Both the occupants of the car were arrested and later released to their parents.

The teenager, from Vista, lost control of the vehicle near Escondido and veered into a bush where two men were sleeping. The men were struck by the vehicle and killed, according to the New York Post.

The unidentified teenager was pulled over by Escondido Police Department officers that same night but sped away when an officer approached her car.

"What the officer didn’t know at the time, is that the car was being driven by a 13-year-old girl from Vista who took her mom’s car without her knowing," Lt. Kevin Toth told Fox5 San Diego.

“They apparently lost control and their car slid into the planter on the east side of the road near an SDG&E transfer facility.”

Authorities said the victims were homeless. Police are working to identify them.

One of the victims was pronounced dead on the scene while another died at a hospital, according to the New York Post.

It is unclear whether the girls will face any charges.

In August 2013, a 6-year-old Arizona girl died when a joyride took a turn for the worse. The girl’s elder brother took off from their home after stealing their mother’s car with her by his side. Their mother grew frantic upon learning that the vehicle and her children were missing and reported authorities.

The children had driven up to five miles and the accident occurred when they were driving back home. The car crashed into a pole, injuring both the children. The girl suffered severe injuries as she was not wearing a seatbelt while the boy suffered minor injuries to his ankle. The girl died at a hospital the following morning.
