A 16-year-old boy was gunned down during a scuffle that broke out at an after-prom party in Texas.

Police responded to a shooting report at a home in Houston at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and found the teenager, Isaac Zetino, wounded at the venue. The high schooler was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement released by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Zetino was attending an after-prom party when he and another male juvenile had an altercation with the father of a female at the party, according to the New York Post.

"During this disturbance, both parties produced handguns and fired at each other. Investigators located the adult male individual who exchanged gunfire with Zetino and the 2nd juvenile," the sheriff's office said.

Responding officers arrived at the scene and found Zetino with fatal gunshot wounds. The teenage victim was described as a friend of the girl who lived at the residence where the after-prom celebration was taking place.

Officials initially believed the gathering was for a graduation party but later confirmed that it was an after-prom party with over 100 attendees. Several guests ran from the residence after the gunfire broke out, CNN reported.

Investigators located the adult male, who is believed to have been involved in the shooting that killed Zetino.

The individual cooperated with investigators and "provided a statement that said, in part, that he had acted in self-defense when he was shooting. This statement was corroborated by findings at the scene," the sheriff's office added.

Officials noted that no charges were immediately filed in connection to the shooting. Investigators spoke to 15 witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.

Possible charges may be filed after the case is presented to a grand jury.

A similar incident was reported last month after shots were fired at a teenager's birthday party, killing four people and wounding 32 others. Officials arrested a total of six people in connection with the shooting that took place at the Sweet 16 party, held at a dance studio in Dadeville. The four victims included 17-year-old Shaunkivia Smith, 19-year-old Marsiah Collins, 23-year-old Corbin Holston, and 18-year-old Philstavious Dowdell, who was celebrating his sister Alexis Dowdell's birthday when he was fatally shot.
