In a shocking incident in Brazil, a 2-month-old baby died after her father allegedly threw her out of a window during an argument with her mother.

The baby reportedly fell 16 feet to the ground. The child, identified by local media as Isabel de Aguilar Loesch, died from severe head injuries at a hospital.

The incident took place on May 28 at the child's mother's family home in the south-eastern part of the country.

The neighbors told the police the girl's parents were having a fight when her 26-year-old father tossed her out of the window. The father has not been named by the police or local media.

During questioning, the child's mother said she does not live with the father. The accused had visited his estranged partner's home to meet his daughter, Yahoo News reported. The mother said she was cooking and had gone into the kitchen to check on the food when the incident took place. When she returned, she saw her daughter lying in the street.

The woman's mother told the police the accused had always been aggressive. Recalling a previous incident, she said when her daughter was pregnant, her partner had punched her in the belly. She also added the couple, who lived separately, often argued. It was not known if the child's parents were married or for how long they had been together.

According to the police, the suspect initially fled the scene. However, he later called the cops apologizing for his actions. He also said he was ready to turn himself in to law enforcement.

The police later took him into custody, but so far, he has not given his version of the events that unfolded on the tragic day.

An autopsy report of the child revealed her cause of death was traumatic brain injury.

The police are holding the suspect on charge of aggravated homicide. His bond amount remains unknown. It also remains unknown when he will be presented in court.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and trying to confirm what led to the child's death.
