An estimated 200 cruise passengers have been stuck in New Orleans after the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway diverted to Louisiana on Tuesday morning citing problems from the hurricane, Dorian.

The cruise dropped the travel into Florida where it was supposed to reach Miami on Sunday. Worsening storm conditions forced the Norwegian Breakaway to sail to New Orleans.

According to cruise news, another ship, Norwegian Sun also shifted direction to New Orleans because of the hurricane.

Cruise passengers allege they had been stranded

However, passengers covered under various cruise deals are at the receiving end of such decisions.

Many of them reported uncomfortable in the cargo terminal they were left as means of transportation, food or water are minimal.

“They’re keeping us in this cargo terminal and we can’t get out and no one can come in,” passenger Sarah Alonso said to WVUE.

Sarah alleged Norwegian Breakaway “just dumped us here and said see you later.”

Alonso also said the cruise ship stopped the passengers from leaving the fenced-in area and did not provide them food and water for hours.

The cruise line did not respond to the queries by Fox News.

Hurricane Dorian hits cruise plans

Meanwhile, reports showed that Hurricane Dorian has spoiled the cruise plans of thousands of travelers including those waiting at ports to start a “dream trip.”

Cruise lines are having the hardest time managing to stay out of the path of Hurricane Dorian.

They are battling unexpected port closures in Bahamas and Florida forcing extended cruises and delaying many trips and itineraries are undergoing rapid shuffles.

More itinerary changes are inevitable for cruise lines given the storm's unpredictable path.

Docking in the Bahamas ports is not possible as the hurricane season has already ravaged the Bahamas islands on Sunday with Dorian’s 185 mph sustained winds.

The agony of delayed trips was apparent in the case of Carnival passenger Shaquana Hearon who complained the text updates from the cruise line are inadequate that warned her against going to the cruise terminal until she hears from them.

Hearon, in her late 30s, hails from South Carolina. She was due to sail out of Jacksonville in Florida on the Carnival Ecstasy on Thursday. But Jacksonville port’s closure has stopped the ship from docking there.

Hearon called Carnival to know her options and was told the trip is not yet canceled and no refunds can be expected.

Amidst the frequent updates of hurricane news and program changes, many cruise passengers shared woes of poor customer-service and hurricane-induced uncertainty in their travel plans.

Tina Wolf, a passenger tweeted at Norwegian Cruise Line: “canceled wedding,” “devastated bride” and “stranded wedding guests,” and that it “lost a customer for life.”

This contrasts with a few others who are already at sea and enjoying free trip extensions plus other perks.

“Hurricane Dorian has me stranded. My cruise has been extended 3+days but at least I have an open bar” exulted Katie Hasler on Twitter.
