Princess Diana lost the things she once enjoyed as a royal following her divorce from Prince Charles.

The Prince and late Princess of Wales officially divorced in 1996, and this changed Princess Diana's life for both the better and the worse. After their failed marriage, the People's Princess lost several opportunities and comforts afforded only to the royals, according to Lydia Hawken, a journalist for The Sun.

Her Title

When Princess Diana and Prince Charles tied the knot, she received the title Princess of Wales. Following their divorce, Prince Charles was reportedly "adamant that she give it up."

Princess Diana was stripped of her royal title. Since she was demoted, she had to curtsy to the royals including her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. However, the Duke of Cambridge reportedly promised his mom that he would return her the royal title when he becomes king.

"Don't worry Mummy, I will give it back to you one day when I am king," Prince William said, according to Paul Burrell.

Unfortunately, Prince William could no longer fulfill his promise to his mom.

Police Protection

According to Tina Brown, the author of "The Diana Chronicles," Prince Charles' ex-wife was also stripped of the security given to the members of the Firm. Princess Diana was only given police protection when she attended public events. She had to fund her bodyguards for her daily routine.

Travel Budget

The royals are given an annual travel budget which allows them to stay in expensive hotels for accommodation. However, when Princess Diana left her royal life, she had to fund her travels abroad. Whenever she had to do her charity trips overseas, the Queen would have to approve it first.

Office and Staff

Princess Diana had to leave her office in St. James Palace after she and Prince Charles broke up. But, she was allowed to relocate in the grounds of Kensington Palace. Also, her personal staff was reduced. Princess Diana was only allowed to have a cleaner, cook and personal dresser at her private residence.

Emotional Stability

Princess Diana reportedly sensed that she was being spied. She had her rooms swept for bugs and constantly feared that she would be murdered.

In fact, she told her former royal butler, Burrell, that she suspected Prince Charles of plotting an automobile accident to kill her and marry Camilla Parker Bowles.

"Her words were 'these next few months, are the most difficult months of my life. I fear my husband is going to kill me. In an automobile accident. With head injuries. In order that he can remarry,'" Burrell said.
