A five-year-old boy in Chicago was shot in the head while he was sitting on a couch in a living room.

The incident happened around 7.30 p.m. (8.30 p.m. ET) Monday in the 200 block of West 115th Street while the boy was playing on his iPad. The boy’s sister heard gunshots and found him injured on the living room sofa. The sister called 911 and the boy was admitted to Comer Children's Hospital, Chicago Tribune reported. The boy has undergone surgery and continues to be in critical condition.

The police found that someone who drove by outside had fired nine rounds into the home. One of these bullets crashed through a plate-glass window of the apartment and hit the unidentified boy on his head.

“It was another random act of violence here in the city of Chicago involving one of our youthful citizens," Glenn White, Chicago police commander told ABC News.

The Chicago police have released a surveillance video of the neighborhood and suspect a silver SUV as the gunman’s vehicle. The SUV was found driving around the building at least three times before the incident.

The gunshots were fired when the vehicle was finally heading West on 115. The gunman in the video could be seen leaning out of the front passenger window and firing at the apartment several times.

White also confirmed there was no one outside the residence when the shots were fired. The police have started an investigation but no arrests have been made yet.

Rabbi Michael Yosef, a community activist, has offered a reward of $500 for any information leading to an arrest.

In another incident from Near West Side, a 16-year-old boy was shot from a pickup vehicle while he was on the 2000 block of West Cullerton Street. The boy who was shot on his abdomen was listed in critical condition.

Reports suggested 23 people, including three teenagers, were shot in Chicago on Monday in separate incidents. The city had also reported 22 people were injured in gun violence over the weekend. Two teenage girls were among four people who were wounded in a shooting in Lawndale on the West Side, reported Chicago Sun-Times.
