A 70-year-old man in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was allegedly killed after he was beaten, stripped and stabbed more than 20 times by his son, whom he refused to give money that was earned from the sale of land.

Vijay Pal Chaudhary's mutilated body was recovered Monday morning from the terrace of the house he shared with his sons in Daurala, Meerut, newspaper The Times of India reported. His severed hand and leg were also found near his body, police said.

Authorities detained and questioned two of Chaudhary's sons following the discovery, according to the report.

The younger son, identified as Abhishant, initially claimed that thieves had forced themselves inside the family's home Sunday night and that their father fell unconscious while resisting them. Additionally, Abhishant claimed that he saw his father's body in a pool of blood when he got up.

Authorities, however, later discovered that Abhishant had beaten, stripped and stabbed Chaudhary at least 23 times after the father refused to give the younger son his share from a Rs 15 lakh ($20,350) land sale.

"The younger son broke down during interrogation and accepted his crime," head constable Charan Singh Sirohi was quoted as saying in the report.

"It was difficult to believe what he was saying. Then some relatives told us about the land deal of Rs 15 lakh. After the deal, [Chaudhary] had a tiff with his two sons over [the] sharing of the money," he added.

Abhishant has since been booked for murder.

Police were allegedly prompted to form a team to crack the case due the brutality of Chaudhary's death.

A similar incident occurred in the Uttar Pradesh town of Manjhanpur in June when a 61-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his sons over a property dispute — the same time most parts of the world were celebrating Father's Day.

The elderly victim, identified as Baijnath, was allegedly taken from his home by his two sons before he was beaten. Baijnath's youngest son, Narendra, had accused his two older brothers, Surendra and Virendra, as well as their wives, of killing their father.

Narendra claimed that one of his older brothers pressured Baijnath to give them their property share and funds from their dad's retirement fund.
