“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 will welcome cult favorite actress Lucy Lawless, TV Guide reports. There is no word on whether the role will interfere with Lawless’ recurring role on “Parks and Recreation.” As usual, Marvel is keeping every detail locked up, but fans can come up with plenty of exciting ideas for the former “Xena: Warrior Princess” star.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent

Obviously, Lawless could be a regular agent. However, everyone can’t just rejoin S.H.I.E.L.D. Coulson isn’t going to trust anyone after Hydra’s infiltration, so her character would have to prove that she is trustworthy. Executive producer Jeffrey Bell recently discussed Coulson’s trust issues. “I mean, once we could say 'Hydra' and there were double-crosses and spies in our midst, the show got really interesting. So continuing that with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Coulson -- not willing to trust people, not willing to bring people in...” Bell told IGN.

Skye’s Mother

Audiences saw the back of Skye’s father at the end of last season, and he had some skin issues. We have to assume that Skye’s mother has less blood oozing down her hands. If Skye’s father was actively looking for her, her mother could be as well. Lawless could be the next layer of Skye’s mysterious family drama.

Coulson’s Love Interest

Coulson needs a love interest. He just deserves it at this point -- he needs a break. Last year, he came back from the dead, started up a new team, had to fight corrupt double agents and is now completely restarting S.H.I.E.L.D. Coulson refuses to tell Audrey -- the cellist he was in love with before his death -- that he is alive, so maybe it is time to move on.

Hydra Agent

Hydra can’t just go away, right? Some of the evil agents had to eventually realize that they weren’t going to win and wave a white flag. Since S.H.I.E.L.D. no longer exists as a huge organization, remaining Hydra agents might still be lurking. (Spoiler Alert: Hydra agent Grand Ward will definitely be around.) Lawless could be a Hydra agent in custody, or better yet, a Hydra agent who wants to redeem herself.

Visitor From Asgard

Okay, maybe we just want to see Lawless play a character like Xena! Also, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will not have movie tie-ins for Season 2. The show’s connections to the Marvel Universe are up to the writers. It seems like the perfect time to make their own connections with original characters.

Marvel Superhero

Similarly, the writers could bring in a comic book character that the movies haven’t utilized. They did this with Deathlok, and fans seemed to respond well to that. Lawless could play anyone from Ms. Marvel to She-Hulk. “Xena” fans know that Lawless can easily portray strong, empowered heroines, so stepping into a superhero role should be easy.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will return to ABC on Tuesday Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT. Whom do you want to see Lawless play? Sound off in the comments section below!
