A Ural Airlines passenger tried to board his flight naked at Domodedovo Airport, Moscow, Saturday, claiming that wearing clothes made him less "aerodynamic".

A video of the unidentified 38-year-old naked man being detained by airport authorities was aired by local news channel Ren TV. The man was reportedly fully clothed when he walked past the flight’s registration counter. However as he neared the jet-bridge, the man started taking off his clothes.

Having stripped down to his birthday suit – much to the bewilderment of onlookers – the man tried to make a dash for flight U6 525 to Crimea. Halfway through his attempt, he was intercepted by security staff and brought back to the airport, where he was detained till police officers arrived at the scene.

“He went through the registration, threw off all his things, his bag, stripped naked and ran. He was detained when landing, managed to run. He broke through the ramp, he was detained further. I think this is spring aggravation. He was not drunk. He shouted that he was naked because clothing impairs the aerodynamics of the body. He flies with more agility when undressed,” REN TV quoted an eye witness as saying, adding that such extraordinary instances were not rare occurrences in the airport.

In the video, aired by the news outlet, the passenger could be seen completely naked as he was being handcuffed by the authorities. He was initially seen kneeling in the airport corridor as officers arrested him and was later seen leaning his legs and back against the wall.

“After the police had detained the offender, he was taken to the airport’s medical room and then was hospitalized in a medical facility. The offender is a native of Yakutsk but lives in the Moscow region,” a press service from the interior ministry said. Other witnesses said the man did not seem to be drunk.

The flight ended up being delayed by 15 minutes due to the incident, RIA Novosti reported. It was unclear if the passenger was charged.

In January, a 35-year-old Air India Express flight passenger stripped naked inside the plane’s cabin and walked down the aisle. A shocked airline crew wasted no time in covering up the unidentified individual with a blanket. Two flight attendants then held him down in a seat as the plane continued to its destination - Lucknow, India - from Dubai.

“As per the direction of the Captain of the flight, the passenger was handed over to Airlines Security at Lucknow Airport where investigation is underway,” an Air India Express spokesman told ANI. Airline officials also told another Indian daily that the man was suffering “mental trauma” following alleged harassment from his employer. However, the exact motive of the man was not known.
