Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins' husband Matthew Hutchins has posted tributes to his late wife after she was accidentally shot dead on the set of the Alec Baldwin film "Rust."

The 42-year-old director of photography died Thursday after Baldwin discharged a prop gun while filming the movie on a ranch in New Mexico. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the incident but has since left the hospital. Baldwin was told the prop gun was safe before he fired it, police said.

Hutchins is survived by her husband and their 9-year-old son, Andros. On Friday, Matthew took to Twitter to share a photo of his late wife and their son, in what marked his first post since his wife's death.

"Halyna inspired us all with her passion and vision, and her legacy is too meaningful to encapsulate in words," Matthew wrote. "Our loss is enormous, and we ask that the media please respect my family’s privacy as we process our grief. We thank everyone for sharing images and stories of her life."

The grieving husband also posted on Instagram family photos showing the couple and their son. "We miss you, Halyna!" he wrote.

Social media users sent their condolences to Matthew and his family, with some sharing their memories of the late cinematographer.

"So very sorry for your incredulous loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your son, family and loved ones. Halyna visited my home town of 'Birr' here in Ireland last year, the Castle Demesne is a very special place. I hope messages of love give you strength and comfort," one Twitter user commented.

"[My] deepest, most sincere prayers for you and your son. The healing process is not going to be easy. But there is an untold number of us whose hearts are with you during these difficult times. Please keep your son close, and know that the world's love is with you right now," another wrote.

Matthew also shared a link to a memorial scholarship fund that has been established and named after Halyna at the American Film Institute (AFI) Conservatory.

"Thank you to Halyna's friends and mentors at AFI for establishing a scholarship to honor her memory and support aspiring female cinematographers. Anyone seeking to honor her memory, please direct your giving to this fund," he tweeted.

On its website, AFI promised to make sure that Halyna "will live on in the spirit of all who strive to see their dreams realized in stories well told." The organization also said there were no words to capture the loss of Halyna who was so dear to the AFI community.

Matthew told the New York Post Friday that he has spoken with Baldwin and that the 63-year-old actor has been "very supportive."

Baldwin also released a statement on Twitter following the incident, saying he has been in touch with Halyna's family and is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

No charges have been filed thus far in connection with the shooting, and an investigation remains ongoing.

The "Rust" film set has been shut down following Halyna's death, with production indefinitely paused, according to the production company behind the project.
