While fans were thrilled when “Gilmore Girls” was given a second life on Netflix, not everyone was happy with how it ended. Alexis Bledel, the actress who famously plays Rory, was one of those people.

“It certainly wasn’t the ending I expected,” Bledel, 35, said at Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys event Sunday. “I had told Amy [Sherman-Palladino] that I hoped Rory would end on a high note after all of her hard work. I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving. So it was a hard thing for me to digest.”

The series left off with Rory being pregnant and essentially without a job. The audience was left in the dark about the father of her baby. It could have been Logan, her ex-boyfriend who was getting married to another woman, or the wookie, the guy she had a one night stand with. There are also some rumors that ex-boyfriend Jess could be the father, but the two never got together during the revival.

“She knew what reaction she was going to get out of the audience,” Bledel said about Sherman-Palladino’s cliffhanger ending. “She’s delighted by throwing everyone a curveball. I knew that’s what she wanted and [so] I just trusted her.”

Laura Graham, who plays Rory’s mother, Lorelei, on the series, said she would love to portray the character in a second season.

“Now it has become a dialogue with the fans of the show; if it all existed in a vacuum I would play that character until my dying day,” Graham said.

“I love her writing; from the moment I read the pilot, I felt so connected to Amy Sherman-Palladino’s voice as a writer. It was so invigorating and fulfilling to do that work. In terms of an actor, I would never tire of that. Now it has become, ‘What can we do that is satisfying, and worth continuing and gratifying to the people who care so much about it.’ I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I would never want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome,” Graham continued. “There’s probably a way to keep these characters alive but I don’t know if that’s the best thing for them.”

For now, there are no official plans for Season 2 of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.”
