iOS 14 brings a slew of new features designed to give users the best iPhone experience. While some features are focused on making the UI look better and offer more functions, other new features and enhancements are meant to improve how accessories work with the iPhone.

Apple added new features to the AirPods in iOS 14, allowing users to enjoy added convenience and more. Here's a quick look at the new AirPods features in iOS 14, as per MacRumors.

Automatic Device Switching

While AirPods and AirPods Pro already feature easy device switching, iOS 14 dials “easy” to 11 and shuns the need for users to access the Bluetooth settings for the secondary device.

Now, AirPods and AirPods Pro users who are listening to music on an iPhone can easily switch to watching videos on their iPad or Mac without having to do anything. The devices, however, have to be connected to the same iCloud account.

Battery Notifications

The iPhone (or iPad) will now notify users if their AirPods or AirPods Pro are low on battery and in need of charging.

Optimized Battery Charging

Apple has added a new Optimized Battery Charging for the AirPods and AirPods Pro in iOS 14. This is like the Battery Health Management feature for the Mac, which learns the user's charging habits then optimizes battery charging accordingly.

Volume Monitor in Control Center

Those who add the “hearing” feature to Control Center will now have a headphone level checker that tells volume levels in real-time.

Headphone Accommodations

Headphone Accommodations is an accessibility feature that will help users that are hard of hearing hear the music and sounds they want while wearing the AirPods and AirPods Pro. It adjusts volume levels so that users can hear soft sounds better. It allows for better headphone audio customization for improved listening when in calls, watching videos and more.

Hearing Health enhancements

Hearing Health now has an option called “Reduce Loud Sounds.” This feature can be set to automatically lower volume levels to a safer level.

Spatial Audio (AirPods Pro)

Apple also added a new Spatial Audio feature for the AirPods Pro. This feature gives users a movie theater-like surround sound experience. It will keep track of a user's head movements relative to the iPhone paired with the AirPods Pro and adjust the sound accordingly.
