Singer Taylor Swift was not warned by the producers of the American Music Awards (AMA) to avoid being political during her performance on Tuesday, despite rumors. Gossip Cop debunked rumors stating Swift was asked not to get too political after she recently showed her support for Democratic candidates contesting for Senate and House of Representatives from Tennessee.

According to Radar Online, Swift was “warned” about uttering additional “controversial statements.” The website quoted a source saying, “Producers at [the] AMA[s] have asked Taylor Swift to not get political.”

The alleged source added AMA were for celebrating “music and entertainment and unlike the Grammy awards they do not like political messages or speeches.”

The website went on to claim that Swift took extreme safety measures in the last year because of which she was able to openly comment about politics. It quoted another insider saying, “Taylor is able to comment on politics now after making her apartment in New York City, homes, and cars bulletproof following a series of terrifying security assessments and real threats.”

The website, however, seemed to have forgotten the safety was increased following threats by a stalker. Swift was stalked by a person for nearly 2 years, who also threatened to rape and kill her. Last month, she obtained a restraining order against the person.

Apart from that, an intruder broke into her New York apartment in April and in the same month, one man was arrested for trespassing at her Beverly Hill mansion. Another man was also caught there with black gloves, a knife and live ammunition.

Gossip Cop reached out to Swift’s confidante who said the report was completely false. The confidante added Swift was there to perform, and if she wins, she may simply mention the midterm elections were coming up; however, there won’t be anything “controversial.”

On Monday, Swift took to social media to reveal she would be voting for Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper in the 2018 midterms.

"I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent,” she wrote.

In the post, she also went against Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn saying the politician's voting record "appalls and terrifies me."

“I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values,” she added.
