A number of garbage disposals have been recalled in the U.S. and Canada after a loosened metal part within the disposals posed a safety risk to consumers.

Around 146,000 disposals from Anaheim Manufacturing in the U.S. and 2,700 in Canada were recalled Tuesday, following an announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Anaheim Manufacturing is a major supplier of kitchen appliances.

“A metal component inside the disposal can break off and come out of the disposal during use, posing an impact hazard,” the recall notice states. Thus far, 22 reports of incidents involving the metal projectile were reported and three reports outlined that disposal users were hit by the flying metal parts after they came loose. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the time this article was written.
