HTC confirms HTC One Android 4.3 updates HTC

The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One has finally begun making its way stateside. HTC President and Android update confidant Jason Mackenzie announced on Twitter Wednesday that Android 4.3 is now rolling out onto HTC One handsets on the Sprint network.

Despite customers having been promised by Mackenzie that U.S. models of the HTC One would receive Android 4.3 updates by the end of September, better late than never appears to be the tune that HTC is now playing. The Taiwanese manufacturer notably has to deal with certifications on various U.S. carriers, which often unintentionally delays system rollouts and also fragment roles outs to different times on different carriers.

Mackenzie now says customers can expect Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to rollout on the AT&T and T-Mobile models of the HTC One in mid-October, while the Verizon HTC One should update in late October. No specific dates have been revealed; however, we note that tech informant @LlabTooFeR more or less accurately predicted that September would pass with no update for standard U.S. carrier models of the HTC One.

During the last week of September we saw the Android 4.3 update roll out onto unlocked HTC One models, HTC One Developer’s Edition models, and HTC One models in Canada. These models likely have less stringent regulations on them than U.S. models.

Meanwhile, the Sprint HTC One is giving anxious owners on other carriers a sneak peek of what to expect when their HTC One handsets update. The Android 4.3 update for the Sprint HTC One includes such Android 4.3 features as Bluetooth LE, OpenGL ES 3.0 and Android Daydream. The update, called 3.04.651.2, fixes issues with Swype, streamlines the HTC Sense UI and updates several Sprint applications, according to Sprint. HTC specific updates to the camera and BlinkFeed content as well as other minor updates are also expected.

Sprint users can head over to the network’s community page for more information, and can also attempt to install the update manually as Android 4.3 may take a few days to roll out on all Sprint HTC One handsets.
