The latest smartphone to receive Android 7.0 Nougat is the Xiaomi Mi 5. The Chinese smartphone will be the first from the manufacturer Xiaomi to update to Nougat, featuring the MIUI 8 custom interface.

Xiaomi is now conducting beta tests for Android 7.0 Nougat on the Mi 5. Xiaomi closed beta tests sign ups Nov. 30, so those interested in seeing the software will have to wait until it officially releases. However, the beta testing phase is a good indication that Android 7.0 for the Xiaomi Mi 5 should be available for the general public within a few weeks.

Several alpha testers have hailed preliminary versions of the software, despite the fact that the such versions are often riddled with bugs and other issues.

Android 7.0 Nougat includes features such as quick switch between apps, the power saving ‘Doze on the Go,’ direct reply to notifications and custom quick settings. MIUI 8 will bring to the Mi 5, Xiaomi’s custom interface design with a host of features not found directly on Android 7.0.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 released in April featuring a 5.1-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, 3GB to 4GB of RAM and 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal storage options, a 16-megapixel rear camera and 4-megapixel front camera, a 3000 mAh battery, USB Type-C, a fingerprint scanner, Black, White, Gold and Ceramic color options and Android 6.0 Marshmallow as its original operating system.
