  • Fans stormed several games in the Google Play Store to protest miHoYo's treatment of "Genshin Impact's" anniversary
  • Many review-bombed games that are not affiliated with miHoYo
  • "Genshin Impact's" rating is steadily rising as Google works to delete reviews left by bots

The ratings of several Google Play Store games plummeted after some members of the “Genshin Impact” community went on a review-bombing frenzy amid the backlash sparked by the miHoYo game’s first anniversary rewards.

A number of games that were completely unrelated to miHoYo were attacked by angry “Genshin Impact” fans who left 1-star reviews to protest miHoYo’s radio silence over the anniversary issue, according to Kotaku. Games that were review bombed reportedly include:

  • “Arknights”
  • “Clash of Clans”
  • “Cookie Run Kingdom”
  • “Dragalia Lost”
  • “Epic Seven”
  • “Fate/Grand Order”
  • “Honkai Impact”
  • “League of Legends: Wild Rift”
  • “Punishing Gray Raven”
  • “Tears of Themis”

“Honkai Impact” and “Tears of Themis” are the only miHoYo games included in this list, and both received harsh comments regarding “Genshin Impact’s” anniversary. Meanwhile, some of the other games on the list received 5-star reviews but still had complaints directed at “Genshin Impact’s” anniversary.

As fans rampaged through the Play Store, Google announced that it will be helping “Genshin Impact” restore its original rating by deleting the negative reviews left by bots and trolls, according to a Sportskeeda report.

Previously, “Genshin Impact’s” score on the Google Play Store dipped to as low as 1.9 stars out of 5 due to the massive wave of negative reviews. As of writing, the game’s rating has since risen back to 3.0, possibly due to Google’s intervention.

However, a number of users are worried that some legitimate negative reviews were also getting removed from the Play Store. One reviewer said that their previous 3-star feedback about the game was deleted, while another user said their review that was unrelated to the ongoing anniversary drama was also removed.

Kotaku noted that this censorship also extends to the official “Genshin Impact” Discord server and subreddit. Some members of the Discord server were banned after they criticized the anniversary event, while certain posts in the subreddit were taken down in an apparent attempt to quell the fans’ frenzy.

The “Genshin Impact” community has earned a somewhat notorious reputation in social media over their hostile and impulsive reactions to most things related to the game. Some fans harassed “Genshin Impact’s” voice actors on Twitter over their performances in the game and other unrelated activities in the past.
