A$AP Rocky has been charged with two counts of assault after allegedly shooting his former friend, A$AP Relli. Prosecutors said the 33-year-old rapper is accused of firing a semi-automatic handgun twice at Relli following a heated discussion in Los Angeles, in November.

A special firearm allegation had to be added to the charges as the shooting could have ended in a tragedy, the LA County District Attorney George Gascon explained in a statement Monday.

"Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood," Gascon said. "My office conducted a thorough interview of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted."

Gascon did not mention whether anyone was hit during the incident, but A$AP Relli previously told the police one of the bullets had grazed his left hand after A$AP Rocky approached him with a handgun and shot at him three or four times. The incident occurred a block south of the Hollywood Walk of Fame in L.A.

A$AP Rocky was arrested in April at the Los Angeles International Airport upon his arrival in a private plane from Barbados with his partner, Rihanna. In a statement on Twitter at the time, police gave details about the arrest.

"Early this morning, LAPD officers arrested Mayers (A$AP Rocky) for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) at the Los Angeles International Airport. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration," wrote the police.

The rapper was released three hours later after posting a $550,000 bond.

This is not the first time A$AP Rocky has been charged with assault. Back in 2019, he was convicted of assault in Sweden after being involved in a street fight between his entourage and two other men. He was put behind bars for a month before the Swedish court suspended his sentence after ruling that the assault was "not of such a serious nature" to warrant more time in jail. A$AP Rocky paid $1,000 in damages upon his release.
