KEY POINTS

  • "Defiance" will add a new game mode, a new legend and an updated Olympus map
  • Mad Maggie is an offensive legend with high movement speed and a penchant for shotguns
  • The Control game mode will run for the first three weeks of the season

Respawn Entertainment recently revealed a gameplay trailer for the upcoming “Defiance” update for “Apex Legends,” which coincides with the game’s third anniversary celebration.

The update was previously teased with the release of a cinematic and a new “Tales from the Outlands” video featuring the new legend, Mad Maggie. This time, players can take a closer look at what’s to come in “Apex Legends” once the newest season goes live this week. Here’s what’s coming.

LTM: Control

As what may be the most unique of the limited-time game modes in “Apex Legends,” Control is set to shake up the game’s very core. In this mode, two teams of nine players will battle it out in bespoke locations across the Outlands in a fight for territory in a “Domination” style contest.

Each map will have three control points that will grant teams the score points they need to win the match; more zones controlled means more scores earned. The first team to reach the score limit wins.

Players have unlimited lives in Control. Instead of getting kills, the game will reward players who capture objectives with the new Ratings system, which grants players upgrades for their weapons based on how well they perform.

Sabotaged Olympus

A gigantic phase generator will serve as the newest point of interest in the “Defiance” update, but this will bring more than just a new place to fight in. The generator will actively phase objects and teleport them across the map, which will make every match much more dynamic than before.

Players will need to keep an eye on their surroundings as the phase generator might just turn the tide of combat – for better or worse.

New Legend: Mad Maggie

Respawn released Maggie’s full character sheet on the developer's website, while the “Defiance” trailer gave players a glimpse of her abilities in action.

Maggie’s passive, Warlord’s Ire, lets her highlight targets that she damages while also granting her extra movement speed when she has a shotgun equipped.

Meanwhile, her tactical Riot Drill ability lets Maggie fire a projectile that damages all targets behind cover.

Activating the Wrecking Ball ultimate ability causes Maggie to throw a large ball that leaves speed-boosting pads as it rolls toward her targets. When the ball passes near enemies, it explodes.
