Apple has added a host of new features to its Messages app on iOS 13, and iPhone users best know what they do and how they work.

Here's a quick rundown of Messages' new features on the latest iOS version.

User Profiles

Messages now lets users add a user photo or Animoji and a name that is shared to those whom they message. The feature can be set so that photos and names can be shared with Contacts Only, or with anyone users send a message to. It can also be set so that Messages will ask users before sharing info.

Search

Messages' Search interface and capabilities is improved on iOS 13. It can be accessed by swiping down on the main Messages screen and then tapping on the search bar. The Search doesn't just help users find a list of recent contacts – it also shows links, photos, locations and attachments the user received.

Shared Media

Tapping on the “i” icon at the top of every conversation brings out sections showing various media that person shared with the user. Photos, links, locations and attachments are shown separately.

Memoji Customization

Apple's Memoji allows users to control them using the TrueDepth camera on the latest iPhones (starting with the iPhone X). The camera monitors a user's face then replicates it on the Memoji to create a truly personalized avatar. Memoji can also be customized to closely resemble a user's face, making them even more personalized.

With iOS 13 , Apple adds more Memoji customization options for makeup, teeth, piercings, earrings, headwear, and glasses. New hairstyles, colors and accessories are available for users to enjoy.

New Animoji

Apple has added three new Animoji characters in iOS 13: a mouse, an octopus and a cow. These characters, along with their older siblings and Memoji, can be controlled using the TrueDepth camera on the latest iPhone models.

Memoji and Animoji Stickers

iOS 13 brings classic emoji-like looks to Memoji and Animoji. This means Memojis can have tears from laughing, eyes that look like hearts, a hand that says “OK” or a hand that does a face palm.

Memoji and Animoji are limited to the latest iPhones. Memoji and Animoji stickers, however, can be used on iPhones that have an A9 chip (like the iPhone 6S) and newer, as per MacRumors.
