Apple Inc. is keeping its word. The electrocardiogram (ECG) functionality of the Apple Watch Series 4 that was teased a few months ago is finally launching soon, if an internal Apple Store training document is to be believed.

MacRumors obtained a copy of the leaked document on Wednesday, and it appears to contain the confirmation for when the highly anticipated ECG feature could arrive. As per the confidential file, the feature will be enabled in the watchOS 5.1.2 update, which is already in beta testing.

The training document also reportedly states that the ECG functionality will only be available in places where it is cleared for use by public consumers. Initially, the feature will only be limited to the U.S. since Apple has obtained FDA clearance for its use in the country.

The Apple Watch Series 4 units that are sold worldwide also have the electrical heart sensor, so it’s very likely for the feature to be enabled in other countries as well. Plans for future expansion are expected to be disclosed by Apple once the feature goes live in the U.S.

The training document also instructs Apple Store employees to advise customers that the ECG app on the Apple Watch Series 4 should not be regarded as a diagnostic tool or a replacement for traditional methods of diagnosing heart ailments. Consumers should always consult their physician if they could use the app to monitor or track their condition.

The current version of watchOS 5.1.1 does not have support for the ECG feature. It’s highly possible that the next software update would be the one that would enable the functionality in the U.S. because Tim Cook’s firm promised that the ECG app will be released later this year.

Apple Watch Series 4 owners should know that it’s not enough for them to have the watchOS 5.1.2 update to use the ECG app. The sensor will collect data in the Health app on the iPhone, so it is also a must to update the smartphone to the upcoming iOS 12.1.1 update, as per AppleInsider.

Sadly, the ECG app will only be available on the Series 4 model. Previous-generation models — from the original through Series 3 — won’t get the app. Nevertheless, watchOS 5.1.2 will enable the irregular heart rhythm notifications on all smartwatch models.
