A man died after he fell off a cliff at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Arizona on Sunday morning.

Officials arrived at the scene after receiving information stating that a man had fallen off a cliff. Upon arrival, witnesses told the officials that the man, later identified as 25-year-old Orlando Serrano-Arzola, fell approximately 100 feet while taking photos on the cliff overlooking the Colorado River at the Glen Canyon Dam Overlook. After falling, the victim slid 150 feet further.

Around 30 minutes after the fall, a Coconino County Sheriff’s Office deputy rappelled toward him and confirmed that he was dead. The man had suffered severe trauma. The victim’s body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

"The Coconino County Sheriff's Office, National Park Service, Page Police Department and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation provided assistance with recovery operations," the National Park Service said in a statement.

"The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and National Park Service express their condolences to the family," the statement added.

National Park Service, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and the Coconino County Medical Examiner were jointly investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, in another statement, the National Park Service said that human remains of another person were found while recovering Serrano-Arzola’s body.

"Officers from Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office discovered bones at the base of the Glen Canyon Dam Overlook on Sunday, Oct. 4, that have been determined to be human remains. The discovery was made while recovering the body of an unrelated fatality in the same location," the National Park Service said.

The incident was being investigated by Coconino County Sheriff's Office and National Park Service and no additional information was available.

In a similar incident last year, an elderly man died after falling over a rim at the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Officials arrived at the scene after receiving information that a man had fallen over the canyon rim. The body of a 67-year-old man was found about 400 feet below the rim.
