Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who helmed the 2020 hit movie, "Bad Boys for Life," are all set to direct Warner Bros.' upcoming movie "Batgirl."

"Batgirl" revolves around Barbara Gordon's fictional character, who is the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. British screenwriter Christina Hodson has penned the screenplay of the upcoming superhero movie.

Hodson previously worked on movies such as "Bumblebee" and "Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey." She is also responsible for writing the screenplay of DC’s upcoming movie, "Flash," which stars Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, and Ben Affleck in key roles.

"Batgirl" is produced by Kristin Burr and planned for HBO Max release. The character, famously played by late actress Yvonne Craig, was originally introduced as part of the “Batman” TV series in 1967. Batgirl’s last big-screen appearance was in Joel Schumacher’s 1997 "Batman & Robin." The role was portrayed by actress Alicia Silverstone.

El Arbi and Fallah recently directed the third installment of the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-starring franchise that earned $426 million at the box office worldwide. The director duo was also roped in as co-showrunners of Disney-Marvel’s "Ms. Marvel" series in which they directed multiple episodes. The filming of the series wrapped up a few weeks ago.

The project previously had Joss Whedon on board as writer and director. He came on in March 2017 but left in April 2018.

"With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham," Burr told Hollywood Reporter. "Christina’s script is crackling with spirit. Adil and Bilall have an excited and joyous energy, which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Bat project. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool."

El Arbi and Fallah are also working on "Beverly Hills Cop 4," the fourth installment of the Beverly Hills Cop film series, in which Eddie Murphy is set to reprise his role. Besides movies, the duo has also worked on short films, "Broeders" and "Hashtag."
