  • The former president suggested to wear masks and listen to experts amid the pandemic
  • Twitter users have mixed opinions on Obama's tweet about how to celebrate Thanksgiving

Barack Obama has reminded everyone to celebrate Thanksgiving responsibly amid the pandemic.

Most people love to travel and reunite with their families on Thanksgiving. However, the former president encouraged everyone to avoid traveling and just celebrate the holiday virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Let’s all do our part this Thanksgiving to keep people safe and healthy. Celebrate virtually, if you can. Wear a mask. And as always, listen to the experts. The choices you make could save lives," Obama tweeted.

Obama's message received mixed responses from his followers. Many agreed with him, but several also disagreed because they felt that they have been following the experts' recommendations, but the COVID-19 rate in the country is still so high. One also said the experts have been inconsistent.

"Well seeing as the experts have been contradictory from the start. I’ll listen to common sense. This virus is killing less people than obesity. Like give it a break," one commented.

"What experts, my guy? Lockdowns are no good, experts say it, closing schools is not good, also experts say this and about masks a danish study came out that they more or less useless. 'Listen to the experts' except danish, WHO and CDC," another added.

"Celebrate virtually but ppl are still working, delivering DoorDash, UberEats, shopping at Walmart, and going to the post office??" another wrote.

Meanwhile, many agreed with Obama and thanked the ex-POTUS for his message.

"Thank You Mr. President, we pray you and your family have a Blessed Holiday!" one commented.

"Thank you Mr. President. I wish I could join your virtual holiday!" another added.

"Thank you, President Obama!!!!! Hope you, Michelle, and the girls have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!! ... I’m not going to lie, your book is DEFINITELY one of the things I’m thankful for this year!!!!! Thank you!!!!!" a third netizen wrote.

Obama's wife Michelle also recognized the fact that there would be a huge difference in celebrating Thanksgiving this year due to the pandemic. Even if traveling and gatherings are not encouraged, Michelle hopes these barriers would not stop the people from reaching out to each other by celebrating it virtually or giving each other a call.

"I hope you can still find some time to tell the people in your life how much they mean to you," she said in a podcast she shared on Instagram a day before Thanksgiving.
