  • Barron and Melania Trump were spotted exiting Trump Tower in New York City Wednesday
  • Barron towered over his mom and carried one of her purses in photos of their outing
  • Former President Donald Trump previously said that his 15-year-old son is now 6 feet and 7 inches tall

Barron Trump was photographed towering over his mother Melania Trump in a rare public sighting in New York City Wednesday.

In photos obtained by the New York Post, the 15-year-old walked next to his 5-foot-11-inch mom as they left Trump Tower, where they have been staying while in the city.

For the outing, the former first lady wore a black button-down shirt and white pants, which she paired with Christian Louboutin pointy-toe flats. Meanwhile, Barron sported a dark, long-sleeve T-shirt and blue jeans.

Barron was also seen carrying his mother's limited edition orange Louis Vuitton x Richard Prince bag, which cost $3,995 when it was released in 2008, according to Daily Mail. Melania was carrying an even more expensive purse — a black Hermes Birkin bag that reportedly cost $11,000, the outlet said.

Former President Donald Trump revealed at a GOP event in North Carolina last month that his youngest son, who turned 15 in March, is already 6 feet and 7 inches tall, New York Post noted.

The photo of Barron towering over his mother immediately sparked memes on social media when it surfaced online.

"somebody has to stop barron trump before he levels up again," one person tweeted.

Some appeared to be envisioning a future NBA career for the teen.

"Barron Trump in the NBA was not the next Trump twist I was expecting," a Twitter user wrote.

"Every day we get closer and closer to the professional basketball player Barron Trump universe arc and I for one welcome it," another commented.

However, others expressed disapproval over photos of Barron being spread online.

"Can you imagine being an awkward and self conscious teenager and not being able to walk out of a building without being photographed and critiqued? I'd say it's really cruel. Can we leave him alone and let him grow up?" one person commented.

"God damn just let this poor dude live his life," another wrote. "Poor kid looks unhappy tbh."

Both Melania and her son have rarely been photographed since they left the White House.

"She never liked press scrutiny and hates it more now," an unnamed insider told People of the former first lady. "She will do whatever she can to avoid being photographed or interviewed. She remains low key, enjoying her life with her family."

But though she's stayed away from the spotlight in the past several months, Melania posts on social media from time to time. In March, she took to Twitter to wish her son a happy birthday, sharing a photo of dark balloons that read "15."

Prior to their sighting in New York, Melania and Barron were last spotted with the former POTUS celebrating Mother's Day at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. On the same day, Trump boarded a plane sans his wife and son to temporarily move to Bedminster, New Jersey, to spend the summer there.
