  • The former first lady has maintained a low-key profile since leaving the White House
  • The ex-FLOTUS and her family do many things together sans her husband, Donald Trump

Melania Trump was spotted in New York City for the first time in a rare public appearance since she and her family left the White House.

The former first lady has maintained a low profile after they moved to Miami. Melania was rarely seen in public since then, but she was photographed arriving at Trump Tower in Manhattan Tuesday, People reported.

An unnamed source of the family told the outlet that Melania prefers to stay out of the limelight due to the investigations involving her husband, former President Donald Trump.

"She never liked press scrutiny and hates it more now," the unnamed insider said. "She will do whatever she can to avoid being photographed or interviewed. She remains low key, enjoying her life with her family."

The outlet noted that the 51-year-old ex-FLOTUS has not been photographed publicly outside Palm Beach where she, her husband and their son Barron reside. The Trumps have settled down at his members-only Mar-a-Lago Club since January.

"While Palm Beach is their main residence, the Trumps go back and forth from New York to New Jersey during the summer season," an unnamed source told People. "Melania and her own family do many things together and not necessarily with Donald."

At present, Trump is staying in Bedminster where he spends the summer. He was photographed carrying a number of boxes onto a flight bound to New Jersey sans his wife and son after celebrating Mother's Day together with a lunch at Mar-a-Lago.

The insider said Melania tries to stay in or around the same city as her husband while still keeping her own schedule. She travels alone occasionally around the U.S. and internationally and it's not an issue to Trump.

"Donald is fine with that as long as she is satisfied, leaves him alone, and makes appearances when needed," the insider said. "Melania is happiest when she is with her own family members, including her son. She is not dumb, she just knows how to handle her life to make it as fulfilling for her as possible."

Just recently, Melania took to Twitter to drop a message for everyone on the Fourth of July.

"Wishing everyone a safe and happy Independence Day!" she tweeted along with the U.S. flag emoji.
