KEY POINTS

  • “On the Ground” broke the highest 24-hour debut views record
  • The song was released on March 12 as part of her solo album “R”
  • The second track of the album has also crossed 100 million views

Ever since Blackpink's singer Rosé kickstarted her solo offerings in March this year, her first single music video “On the Ground” has been setting new records.

The music video crossed 200 million views on YouTube on Tuesday, making her the first Korean female artist to achieve the milestone in 2021.

It took Rosé's music video four months and 13 hours to reach 200 million views, according to Soompi.

Roseann Park, widely known as Rosé, made her solo debut on March 12 with the album “R.” The album consisted of two tracks, “On the Ground” and the B-side track, “Gone.”

In March, “On the Ground” reached 100 million views and became the fastest music video by a Korean female soloist to achieve the feat, breaking a record previously held by Rose's bandmate Jennie for her song "Solo."

“On the Ground” also received the highest 24-hour debut views for a music video by a K-pop soloist with 41.6 million views. The accomplishment was recognized by Guinness World Records in an April 9 press release, which also announced the singer’s two new world titles.

She beat fellow K-pop artist, Psy, who held the record at 36 million views for his global smash hit “Gangnam Style” in 2012.

Her English single “On the Ground” reached the number one spot on both the Global Billboard 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US chart on March 27, as per Guinness.

Previously, she topped the Global Excl. US chart with the song “Lovesick Girls” as a member of Blackpink with Jisoo, Lisa and Jennie.

The 24-year-old singer was hailed by Guinness as the first artist to reach number one on a Billboard Global Chart as a soloist and as part of a group. Koreaboo credited the warm response to the music video to Rosé’s “amazing visuals and emotional lyrics.”

Rosé is the second Blackpink member to release a solo album following Jennie Kim’s album release in 2018. Her second solo music video for the song “Gone” has also surpassed 100 million views as of July 5 since its release on April 15.

On the other hand, the band's management agency, YG Entertainment, announced that Lisa Manoban is already filming a music video for her solo offering set to be released soon.

Lisa will be the third Blackpink member who will release a solo debut after Jennie and Rosé.
