Police have made an arrest in the possible murder of a teen that went missing over one week ago in West Virginia.

The teen in question was Riley Crossman, a 15-year-old who was reported missing by her parents on May 8 when they found out she missed school. Her parents, especially her father Lance, made multiple cries to the public to help find their daughter.

Volunteers, along with members of the Morgan County Sheriff's Department, the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security, organized massive search efforts all over Morgan County, West Virginia, in an effort to find Crossman.

“We're investigating all possibilities,” Sheriff K.C. Bohrer told LocalDVM on Monday. “We don't have any belief at this point in time that she ran away.”

While search efforts were in effect, authorities were also investigating anyone suspected to be involved in her disappearance. Near the top of the list was Andy J. McCauley Jr., the 41-year-old boyfriend of Riley’s mother, who worked in nearby Berkeley County.

Ultimately, police found a body in Berkeley County that was believed to be Crossman’s on Thursday. The body was sent to a local coroner’s office to undergo an autopsy to confirm it is indeed Crossman.

In response, police approached McCauley and asked him to come to the Martinsburg detachment of the West Virginia State Police. He agreed and was arrested shortly after arriving. On Thursday afternoon, local authorities reported that McCauley had been charged with one count of murder.
