Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai Sunday (June 14). His domestic help called the police after he was found hanging at his home. The actor was 34.

The reason behind his suicide remains unknown as the police have not recovered a suicide note.

“He has committed suicide at his residence in Bandra. Our team is there,” Manoj Sharma, additional commissioner of police (Western Region) told news agency PTI.

The actor’s former manager Disha Salian was also found dead a few days ago. She reportedly died by suicide by jumping off the 14th floor of a building in Malad, Mumbai.

Rajput had massive hits under his belts like “MS Dhoni – The Untold Story,” “Kedarnath,” “Sonchiriya,” and “Raabta.”

The actor became a household name after his role in Ekta Kapoor's television show “Pavitra Rishta.” Later, he made his Bollywood debut with “Kai Po Che!” in 2013.

He made a mark in the industry after portraying Indian cricketing legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni in “MS Dhoni – The Untold Story.”

Ironically, his last movie titled “Chichhore” revolves around suicide. In the movie, Rajput’s character motivates his son who could not take failure and attempts suicide. He teaches his son to live life to the fullest, irrespective of failure.

Rajput was soon to be seen in the official remake of “The Fault in Their Stars” titled “Dil Bechara,” directed by Mukesh Chhabra. The movie was speculated to be released on a streaming platform.

The 34-year-old actor’s death sent shockwaves in the Bollywood industry as messages and tributes from noted veterans started pouring in.

“Honestly this news has left me shocked and speechless...I remember watching #SushantSinghRajput in Chhichhore and telling my friend Sajid, its producer how much I’d enjoyed the film and wish I’d been a part of it. Such a talented actor...may God give strength to his family,” actor Akshay Kumar tweeted.

Director Karan Johar took to Twitter and shared Rajput’s photo with a message.

“This is heartbreaking....I have such strong memories of the times we have shared ...I can’t believe this ....Rest in peace my friend...when the shock subsides only the best memories will remain....”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences over the passing of Rajput.

“Sushant Singh Rajput...a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti,” Modi tweeted.
