  • The series is expected to premiere in 2022

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's 2005 film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" is getting a reboot but with new stars taking on the lead roles.

The movie that brought Jolie and Pitt together in 2004 is being revived as an original TV series for Amazon Prime Video starring Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Entertainment Tonight reported.

The pair co-created the show in partnership with New Regency, the studio behind the original movie, and Francesca Sloane, who will serve as showrunner. The "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" reboot is being eyed for a 2022 debut on the Amazon streaming service.

The series has been in the works for months and falls under Waller-Bridge's overall deal with Amazon Studios, which she signed in 2019, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Glover teased the project on his Instagram story Friday. He shared a video of him with Waller-Bridge featuring the latter recreating Jolie's famous pose from the movie poster. In a subsequent post, he wrote, "Mr + Mrs Smith Donald Glover x Phoebe Waller-Bridge Co-created with Francesca Sloane + New Regency + Amazon Studios." Another post read, "Amazon Prime Video 2022."

Amazon Prime Video also tweeted Friday photos of Glover and Waller-Bridge and asked netizens to share their conspiracy theories regarding the pair.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, and New Regency confirmed the revival and Glover and Waller-Bridge's casting on the show.

"Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team," Salke said in a statement to ET.

She continued, "'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own. We’re thrilled to be working with them, and with such great partners at New Regency."

Meanwhile, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer of New Regency, which has teamed up with Glover for several projects, including "Guava Island," said in a statement that they were happy to collaborate with the actor once more.

They were also excited to work with Waller-Bridge and her company, Wells Street Films, because she "takes everything up another level and makes the project worthy of a reimagining for both new audiences and past fans of the original film."

This is not the first time that Glover and Walker-Bridge are working together on a project together as they both appeared in 2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story."
