Despite his no longer being President of the United States after Joe Biden’s inauguration, Donald Trump still seems to have large support amongst the GOP ahead of his second Impeachment trial—and MSNBC host Brian Williams wasn’t above poking fun at the relationship between the two during his “11th Hour” broadcast.

During his Jan. 28 episode, Williams was discussing the meeting between Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy at Trump’s new Palm Beach, Florida base, and claimed to have footage showcasing what happened as the two met. However, when the clip rolled on screens, viewers actually saw an iconic scene from “Jerry Maguire.”

“I love you...you complete me,” Tom Cruise’s character in the film says to Renee Zellweger.

“Shut up,” she replies. “Just shut up. You had me at hello.”

After the clip played, Williams’ guests, comedian Baratunde Thurston and conservative pundit Bill Kristo, both visibly smiled at the clip, as Williams then used his trademark deadpan voice to apologize for the clip playing.

“That is...um, obviously we have rolled the wrong clip and we were sold a bill of goods here,” Williams said. “I thought this was going to be the McCarthy and Trump meeting and someone’s going to be of course in big trouble.”

Viewers quickly latched on to the moment, however, with many noting that it was clearly his attempt at poking fun at McCarthy and Trump’s relationship, and the visit overall, which many saw as McCarthy’s attempt to reconcile with the former President after he initially criticized him for inciting the Capitol Hill riot on January 6.

Williams has not explicitly stated that the clip was his attempt at trolling as of press time.
